Leadership
Advancement is a four month program that convenes at a variety
of times every two to three weeks in order for the participant to develop a
fundamental use of effective leadership capacities including: personnel working
styles; steps to performing groups; wisdom cycles (experiential learning);
creativity; story telling; listening skills; group facilitation techniques;
collaboration; bringing groups to consensus; and visioning. The program is open
to anyone that is interested in personal and professional growth. Room is
available to the first 35 paid registrants. The $250 tuition fee covers all
class materials, overnight lodging and applicable meals. For an additional fee,
the program is worth 2 credit hours through Hutchinson Community

Leadership Advancement is
led by program director, Racquel Thiesen of the Newton Area Chamber of
Commerce, and is co-facilitated by Sherri Buss, Director of the Special
Education Cooperative for USD 373. Thiesen and Buss are trained leadership
facilitators through the Kansas Health Foundation and are active Ambassadors
for the Foundation in the areas of leadership and community development.
The Kansas Health
Foundation is a philanthropic organization in Wichita, Kansas
whose mission is the improve the health of all Kansans through public health,
children’s health and leadership development initiatives. For more information

The Newton Area Chamber of
Commerce has facilitated a leadership program since 1982. The current program,
with the focus on skills and personal development, has been offered since 2004.
