Hey everyone, we have a four day weekend coming up. Depending on the status of
our plumbing depends on what will be done, but everything going as planned
(which is never of course) we might make Monday a workday. It will be minor
framing, insulating and sheetrocking, if it is a workday.
And now for
some exposition as to where we are at;
Framing is almost done, some minor
cosmetic work left
Electrical rough in is done
Core drilling for plumbing
is done
And we eagerly await the plumbers rough in.
We have made HUGE
strides in this project guys, and we all know that school adds that big amount
of stress, what with sports, extracurriculars and the dreaded amounts of
homework (for those of you in A.P. English, you have my sympathies). But
remember, we ALL pledged ourselves to this project as a group and as
individuals. There have been concerns raised as to whether we are going to
finish the project in time for winter...that is a concern for the staff and
residents at the shelter. They hope to have this done before it gets so cold
that they have to either heat the entire facility, or do without.
So we
need some volunteers and fast. Here's what we need.
-2 people to contact
Norcraft
-3 to 5 people to come up with a fundraiser
-Everyone's schedules
on ONE BIG calendar so we know when we can schedule things
Email me
availability for one of the jobs ASAP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Our deadline was
October...do you know what month it is?
Let's get this done guys. Finish,
and finish BIG
______
-Waiting on plumbers (no workdays planned yet)
-Need cabinets, volunteers to look into Norcraft sponsorship
-Need planned fundraising, expect update soon
-tell people that don't have email (i.e. Chrissy, etc.) (September 13, 2006)

Framing is a stones throw from being completed. That said, there is only a
small amount of work left before we need to stop and allow the licensed trades
to complete their tasks before we can sheetrock. Unfortunately, the vicious
cycle is they can't do that until the core drilling is done. The core drilling
can't be done until the framing is done, and their isn't enough framing to
constitute an official workday.
Confused yet?
Regardless, i personally will be working on the framing this wednesday
between 2 and 4 o'clock, so if you are really interested in seeing the site or
helping, that's when the framing will be finished.
Anyway, at the request of Sherri and Racquel, i will be making an hour
tally sheet for community service hours and whatever it is they have cooked up.
The project might take off again once school starts, when we will all see
eachother again.

-We are looking for donations, either in the form of furnishings (i.e.
cabinets, new restroom facilities, countertops, etc.) or monetary donations
(i.e.$). If you know of any companies or businesses who could possibly be
interested in assisting us, please contact them and let us know how it
went.
-The Newspaper photographer was at the site today, so if there are pictures
posted on the kansan website, a link will be posted on ours.
-What are the fundraising ideas? Please share any and all ideas, the only
foolish idea is the succesful one that is never spoken.
-We're finished framing, other than some minor details that the
professional will work out. All those blisters on our hands have paid off, and
the walls are ready to be rough plumbed and wired.
-speaking of rough plumbing and wiring, we have also contacted the plumber
and electrician, who will be doing the professional rough-ins in their
respective areas.
-Break time! Next official workday is a ways off, Saturday the 29th, when
we will be sheetrocking (no, really this time). We will have an experienced
supervisor, and the supplies are there, so all we need are willing hands. This
will be an allday workday, from 9 to 5 as usual, come as you can.
-Remember to check this page often, bookmark it or something! With all of
our constantly changing schedules, the webpage will be changing just as often,
and has lots of important info!
